Science Vs. Spirituality

Created and directed by Alex Suber LUX SINE is an interactive VR documentary set in the Black Hills of South Dakota that explores the forefront of underground particle physics research and the Sacred Wind Cave as they unravel the cosmos from different angles.

The experience navigates the subterranean depths of the decommissioned Homestake Gold Mine. At the turn of the century, it’s 350 miles of tunnels a mile below ground became Sanford Underground Research Facility, where scientists employ a “cosmic microphone” to investigate the origins of the universe and the nature of dark matter.

In tandem, LUX SINE also takes us to the vast underground network of the Sacred Wind Cave, the labyrinth of ancient caverns at the heart of the Lakota Sioux creation story referred to as “the portal to the spirit world”. Both spaces take us into the realm of sheer darkness as they explore what lies beyond light.
