The Future of 5G Networking at Historic Bell Labs
Future X is an immersive museum-style exhibit at the historical Bell Labs campus in New Jersey, now owned and operated by Nokia. The entire experience walks guests through the SSOC Room, a robot simulation, the Domain Lab, and finally the Future City. My main involvement was in developing an interactive web application that ties each of these experiences together, allowing a potential customer to select a range of 5G networking technology and understand how those choices impact the overall cost of operation and efficiency of a future city. The web application is first experienced in the Service and Slice Operations Center, or SSOC. Visitors are guided by a Bell Labs representative using personal tablet stations and a very large three-monitor touchscreen installation at the front of the room. The entire space feels like a control center, where big decision are made on the future of 5G citywide networking.
